Message to the people of Guam
from Consul-General KOBAYASHI
|
On this special day, I would like to express my deepest respect for all the people, both civilian and military, who perished 76 years ago. Every year, the Liberation Day is a time for reflection. We humbly take a moment to remember and recognize those who experienced a sad tragedy. They have gone, but will never be forgotten. At the same time, it is also a reminder for all of us that the peace and prosperity we enjoy today is based on the sacrifices and efforts made by those who are not here with us today. Further, the perseverance of the survivors and their descendants have led the way in rebuilding this beautiful and peaceful island. This year, there will be no memorial ceremonies due to the COVID-19. However, I would like you to know that the thoughts and prayers of every member of the Japanese community on Guam were, are, and will always be with the people of Guam. 76 years ago, nobody could have imagined the wonderful relationship we now have between Guam and Japan. And I truly believe that this deep friendship exemplifies the great spirit of “Inafa’ Maolek”, which is shown by the people of Guam in every corner of this beautiful island. I extend my sincere Un Dångkolo’ Na Si Yu’os Ma’åse’ to you all. KOBAYASHI Toshiaki Consul-General of Japan |
