Greetings by the newly inaugurated Consul-General KOBAYASHI Toshiaki

2020/5/14

Hafa Adai and welcome to the official website of the Consulate-General of Japan in Hagatna, which is responsible for the Consular District of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) from 1975. For better consular service in the CNMI, Japan established the Consular Office in Saipan in 1979.

The existing excellent relationship between Japan on one side and Guam and the CNMI on the other side has been built, throughout the years, by the devoted efforts of many. My mission is to maintain and further strengthen our friendly bonds in a variety of fields: political, economic, cultural, academic and people-to-people exchanges. It should also be mentioned that Japan and the U.S. continue to work closely on the steady implementation of the relocation of U.S. Marine Corps from Okinawa to Guam, which will begin in the first half of the 2020s.

The entire world, including Japan and this region, is now experiencing an extremely challenging period in terms of health, economy including tourism, society and other aspects of our life, caused by the pandemic of COVID-19. Although there are almost no international tourist arrivals here at this moment, I truly hope the situation will reverse soon. I will dedicate myself to the positive environment for the recovery of bilateral trade, tourism and other activities.

Nihi ta fanhita mo’na!
