Dr. Toyoko Poong-Ja Kang
“The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette” was bestowed to Dr. Toyoko Poong-Ja KANG, Professor Emeritus in Japanese Language, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, University of Guam, USA.  
 
Dr. Kang was awarded this prestigious award for her year-long contribution to promoting Japanese language education in the United States of America and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States of America, especially Guam. 
 
Dr. Kang is being recognized for teaching the Japanese language to about 3,500 students over the course of 35 years, since she started her teaching career at the University of Texas at Austin in 1985. Dr. Kang started teaching the Japanese Language to about 2,200 students at the University of Guam in 1993. Dr. Kang’s teaching career is a fine example of the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and the USA as well as Japan and Guam. Dr. Kang received the Foreign Minister's Commendation in 2020.
