Curinary Arts Lesson of "Washoku"
The Consulate-General of Japan with the cooperation of “Washoku” (Japanese Cuisine) chef held a sushi class for the culinary arts students studying at the Guam Community College on September 23.
The chef taught the students not only how to make sushi including mental preparation, but also the history of sushi. The students listened intently and with much enthusiasm to the chef. They picked up their favorite ingredients and made their own sushi rolls under Chef Ikeda’s guidance.
Chef Ikeda gave sushi roll lesson twice for GCC Culinary Arts Classes, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and from 1 to 3:30 p.m.. There were approximately 15 students in each lesson. According to the students, this was their first experience receiving proper instructions in the Art of Japanese Cuisine. It was certainly very remarkable as they were able to have a better understanding on providing the right pressure in making the sushi roll.
The students will be participating in “Appreciation Night”, organized by the Guam Nikkei Association on Oct. 10 at the GCC, where they will make and sell sushi rolls.
